I am so excited to finally show this quilt to you all - so without further ado....ta-da!!  I had the pleasure of pattern testing the Mazarin Quilt Block designed by Amista (@amistabaker) for the #2016Cloud9NewBlock - Blog Hop! She did a wonderful job designing the block, it finishes at a 12.5 inch block. It comes together quickly and it is so much fun coordinating the colors for the next block! It keeps it fun and exciting. You can find more info here on her blog!  I used Organic fabrics from Cloud9 - "Around the Block" designed by Skinny LaMinx, and paired that with Cloud9’s Cirrus solids in the following colors - Twig, Clementine, Grass, Lagoon, Coral, Bark. I love the broadcloth solids, they are so soft, and the colors are beautiful!
I definitely encourage all of you to check this out as I had a lot of fun making this and it was a wonderful experience.

This week was a busy one! It's the first week back at school plus we celebrated our son’s 4th birthday. He requested an "Avengers party" - again...little boys and their super heroes! We shook it up by having an Avenger's Pool party and it was a lovely time spent with friends and family, but I think we all realized the pool party wore the parents out more than the children 😜 I had started the tradition that every year the kid’s get a birthday quilt. With this year’s birthday being Avengers theme, my little Captain America has a Cap quilt to call his own. When he saw it pieced together he said "oh no my gosh! Mommy made me that!" It absolutely melted my heart! ❤️💙❤️  I also completed a pattern test called "Domestic Illusion" for Mister Domestic! He is seriously amazing! If you haven’t checked out his Instagram yet, add it to your to-do list (follow him here). He will be releasing the pattern soon so keep an eye out for it. I used gradient solids in mustard tones and love the results - it definitely won’t be the last one I will be making. I must say I really enjoy the weaving process, and I am a huge fan of the Wefty needle (available here) as it makes the process quick and easy.
Although the week was crazy with wonderful busyness, I did lots of sewing and added new crib sheets to the shop from the new Cotton & Steel "Les Fleurs" and "From Porto with Love", as well as a few from Riley Blake's Greatest Adventure. I really enjoy these sheets as I think they give a fun unique feel to the kid's room!
Some secret pattern testing was also done, but I cannot announce what it is until mid September… getting to work on such fun projects is truly a treat! I can’t wait to show you all! As mentioned last week, I have also started a “secret” project of my own that will be my next giveaway here in the coming weeks so stay tuned! Here’s a picture for a sneak peak...

Love, Alicia xoxo Hello and welcome to “My Handmade Life” blog. I’m totally new to this so please be patient with me on my journey into the blogging world. As I’ve said so many times, I love dialoging with fellow crafters and quilters and I was hoping this would a great opportunity to set aside time once a week and chat about creativity, homemaking, and motherhood.
I’ve been asked a lot why I spell “bequilting” the way I do and what it stands for. The “b” in the name stand for my son’s name while the “e” is my daughters name. Plain and simple, my children are the motivating factor in wanting to make more out of myself - to not just settle with what was in front of me, but to take on new challenges and things that scared me. I love the artisan process and recognize how special it is for people to create and take back the manufacturing process. For years I never considered offering my creations to the public, much less starting my own business. But with a lot of support from family and friends, I was proud to officially open bequilting in early 2016. The adventure so far has been an absolute blast and I look forward to a one year anniversary with hopefully many to follow. I LOVE interacting with the quilty community as I’ve never known a kinder, more supportive group of people. Getting to know a little bit about each of my clients has helped me when considering the personality of each piece I do. I feel so blessed to be doing what I love with the support of my family to keep at it - the energy and sense of belonging I get from this company makes me feel at peace.
